Piller UPS Solution for Global Switch

Global Switch, the largest collocation data centre in Australia, has once again chosen Piller power protection for the second phase of their major data centre expansion project to supply six sets of 2.5MVA each, dual output Piller Rotary UNIBLOCK Diesel UPS units.   With this increased capacity, the facility will have 37MVA of rotary UPS power.  The new UPS and associated infrastructure will mean that the facility can support an additional 5,000 sq m of technical floor space. The original capacity design was based on 800 w/m2 however current planning and designs are using 1000 w/m2. The total investment in this facility will currently exceed $200MAUD.

The first phase of the Sydney facility was completed in 2002 with an NLA of approx. 10,000 square metres, utilising a Tier III approach to redundancy of electrical power.  The facility employed 10 off 2.2MVA, dual output Diesel rotary UPS units from Piller Power Systems GmbH.

Close to the Central Business District in Sydney, the Global Switch facility offers a variety of data centre solutions to local and international companies seeking a secure and proven facility to house their IT operations.

Jonathan Davis, MD of Piller (Australia) Pty Ltd said “We are very proud to have been selected for the next phase of this high profile facility.  By offering an alternative solution to that installed originally, we were able to maintain our leading position in this market, which combined with our local strength in service and after sales support, helped Global Switch make this critical decision.”
