Reigning World Champions stumble in fifth and final engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a02024 52 SUPER SERIES<\/strong>\u00a0concluded off the Spanish city of Valencia, September 23 \u2013 28, with the Langley Holdings\u00a0Gladiator Sailing Team<\/em>\u00a0finishing third place overall in the five regatta series.<\/p>\n

Despite claiming victory in the ROLEX TP52\u00a0World Championship<\/a>\u00a0Newport in July \u2013 the pinnacle event of the season \u2013 and again in\u00a0\u00a0Puerto Portals<\/a>\u00a0in August, the hot favourites going into the final showdown, fell short in the southern Spanish arena, seeing their 8 points lead going into the event turn into a 5 point deficit to the eventual winners.<\/p>\n

Overall victory for the season went to US team\u00a0Quantum Racing Powered by American Magic<\/em>, with the German\u00a0Platoon Aviation<\/em>\u00a0taking second place in the 13 boat fleet representing 9 different countries.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the event and on the season, Argentine helmsman Guille Parada said:
\n\u201cWe didn\u2019t sail at our best this week, but overall, it has been a huge step forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tactician and team boss Tony Langley concurred:
\n\u201cIt was tricky conditions, but it was tricky for everyone, so no excuses. We just didn\u2019t sail well enough\u201d<\/p>\n

Notwithstanding the disappointing final event, 2024 has been the most successful season since the\u00a0Gladiator<\/em>\u00a0campaign began in 2012.<\/p>\n

In 2023 the\u00a0Gladiators<\/em>\u00a0narrowly missed out on a podium finish for the season and despite a slow start to 2024 with a 6th place in the inaugural event, the team went on to take 2nd place in the second engagement and 1st place in events three and four, thereby sealing their position as the team to beat in this, the world\u2019s premier monohull circuit.<\/p>\n

Next season opens on the French Riviera in May in St Tropez. The\u00a0Gladiators<\/em>\u00a0will be back, Langley confirmed:
\n\u201cWe have a pretty good idea what went wrong in Valencia and that will be addressed next season. Regroup. Reload. Go again.\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
