Since 1977,\u00a0Forestal del Atl\u00e1ntico<\/a>\u00a0has been manufacturing glues and resins in the Ferrol estuary along Spain\u2019s Atlantic coast, supplying essential products to the wood industry.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, the company is transforming its operations, working with Bergen Engines to achieve a near-negative carbon footprint.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/h5>\n

A Clean Approach to Energy and Emissions<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the heart of this transformation are Bergen\u2019s 12MW B36:45V20 co-generation gas engines, pivotal to Forestal del Atl\u00e1ntico\u2019s ambitious\u00a0Triskelion project<\/a>, which combines advanced carbon capture technology and synthesising methanol using green hydrogen produced on-site.<\/p>\n

This green hydrogen not only fuels methanol production but could also be blended to power the gas engines themselves, further reducing reliance on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

This approach replaces fuel oil engines with cleaner, natural gas-powered systems, cutting CO\u2082 emissions and supporting Forestal\u2019s sustainability goals. The revamped plant will supply essential heat for resin and melamine paper production, provide electricity for factory operations and feed surplus power into the grid.<\/p>\n

Delivering Impact: E-Methanol and Carbon Capture<\/strong><\/p>\n

When fully operational in 2027, the plant is expected to produce approximately 40,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually. In the process, it will capture and utilise around 56,000 tonnes of CO\u2082, positioning Forestal del Atl\u00e1ntico at the forefront of sustainable industrial practices.<\/p>\n

Bergen Engines<\/a>\u00a0produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field. The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine.
