{"id":877,"date":"2021-10-22T13:35:05","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T13:35:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/langley-holdings.whattheframework.uk\/it-it\/?p=877"},"modified":"2023-10-12T16:22:55","modified_gmt":"2023-10-12T16:22:55","slug":"langley-visits-bergen-engines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.langleyholdings.com\/it-it\/blog\/2021\/10\/22\/langley-visits-bergen-engines\/","title":{"rendered":"Langley visits Bergen Engines"},"content":{"rendered":"<section id=\"block-48060 \" class=\" text-content\">\n<div>\n<p><strong>New owner sets out his vision for a sustainable future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Retford &#8211; 22nd October, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>With Covid travel restrictions finally relaxing across Europe, following the announcement in August that\u00a0Langley Holdings have entered into an Agreement to acquire the Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines business, Mr Tony Langley and colleagues visited the company\u2019s factory and headquarters in Norway for the first time earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit Langley set out his vision, not only for the iconic engine builder, but also for his group\u2019s contribution to \u201cnet zero\u201d \u00a0ahead of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\">COP 26 summit<\/a>\u00a0in Glasgow next month.<\/p>\n<p>Three days in Bergen saw a packed schedule of internal meetings and tours of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bergen_Engines\">iconic engine builder<\/a>, concluding with a press conference on Wednesday, which included Norwegian national TV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AMAZE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During his visit Mr Langley gave a green light to the\u00a0<strong>Ammonia Zero Emission (AMAZE)\u00a0<\/strong>project\u00a0which Bergen Engines\u00a0will commence in 2022 under Langley stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>AMAZE is a three year study into the potential use of ammonia as an alternative fuel for ship engines. The \u20ac4 million project, which is being funded jointly with the Norwegian government, will also give the company valuable knowledge into running their engines on other alternative fuels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world isn\u2019t producing alternative fuels on a sufficient scale yet and right now we don\u2019t know whether it will be ammonia, methanol, bio-diesel, hydrogen or a combination of them all that eventually wins out against fossil fuels\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we cannot afford to sit and do nothing in the meantime, which is why I have approved this investment now\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Power Solutions Division<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Langley also announced that Bergen Engines will come together with the group\u2019s Italian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marellimotori.com\/en-GB\">Marelli Motori<\/a>\u00a0and German\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.piller.com\/en-GB\">Piller Power Systems<\/a>\u00a0subsidiaries, \u00a0to become part of a new\u00a0<strong>Power Solutions Division\u00a0<\/strong>to pursue projects in the rapidly developing hybrid-renewable \u201cmicrogrid\u201d sector.<\/p>\n<p>Marelli is a leading producer of electric motors and generators and it\u2019s products are already proven with Bergen engines in harsh marine applications. The two companies will now work even more closely, together with Piller, a leading producer of power stabilisation equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Langley emphasised though that Bergen and its new sister companies will continue to serve their existing customers and markets and that the transition to net zero will be &#8220;evolutionary\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Power Solutions Division will represent almost half of Langley\u2019 Holdings\u2019 expected \u00a0\u20ac1.3 billion revenues in 2022, with Bergen Engines accounting for around \u20ac300 million.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"images \">\n<div>\n<picture><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.langleyholdings.com\/en-GB\/images\/7830\/press-conference.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/picture>\n<p class=\"caption\">The new logo that will represent Bergen Engines, following completion of the sale of Rolls Royce Bergen Engines to Langley Holdings on 31st December, was unveiled at a press conference during the visit.
