Support for Ukraine reaffirmed as first “crucial” engines are shipped

Following Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s announcement of Bergen Engines’ “crucial” contract award for power generating equipment, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Cecilie Myrseth toured Bergen Engines’ Hordvik factory last week and praised the company’s contribution to Ukraine’s energy recovery efforts.

Ms. Myrseth was shown the process of building engines and generator sets, examining each stage and was able to see the first sets being sent to help strengthen Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Following the tour, Ms. Myrseth addressed employees, delivering a message that recognised the importance of their work.

She spoke about the pride they should feel, not only in their technical achievements but also in the essential role they are playing:

“We [the Norwegian government] are so happy and proud that a Norwegian company can contribute in such a concrete way to help so many people in Ukraine.”

Managing Director Jon Erik Røv echoed the significance of the Ukraine business, highlighting the responsibility the company has deploying its skills and technology to aid rebuilding efforts. The visit follows a similar tour by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in September.

About Bergen Engines

Bergen Engines produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field. The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine. Formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines, on 31st December 2021, the company became part of the Power Solutions Division of the British engineering and industrial group, Langley Holdings plc, together with Marelli Motori, Italy, Piller Power Systems, Germany and GKN Hydrogen, Italy.
